Equity Market Summary

The market closed the week on a bullish note, with the NASI, N10, NSE 20, and NSE 25 rising by 2.8% w/w, 3.2% w/w, 2.4% w/w, and 3.0% w/w, respectively.

Market activity jumped to USD 95.9m (+218.4% w/w). Absa dominated market activity, accounting for 53.3% of the week’s turnover. The counter’s price function strengthened by 3.7% w/w to KES 32.25. Notably, Absa Group completed a block trade on 18th August 2026 of 188,772,684 shares following the settlement of Absa Group’s Tender offer for an additional stake in Absa Kenya. KCB Group and Equity Group advanced by 7.2% w/w and 4.5% w/w, to achieve parity at KES 93.50. In addition, Safaricom and EABL edged higher by 2.7% w/w and 1.4% w/w to KES 36.35 and KES 277.00, respectively.

Car and General surged by 42.8% w/w to KES 374.25, closing the week as the top gainer. Conversely, Flame Tree slid by 7.0% w/w to KES 2.13, emerging as the leading laggard.

Foreign investors were net sellers, with net outflows of USD 12.4m. Co-op Bank led the buying charge, while EABL led the selling charge. Foreign investor activity contracted to 14.8% from 23.9% in the prior week.
